Making a blockchain from scratch is no simple task. In fact, Bitcoin, Litecoin, ZCash, and Dash all share 90% of the same code for this very reason. We’re looking to show people how easy it is to develop and create new custom blockchains and apps. We’re looking to show the full power of Lamden. Lamden is focused at being the first end-to-end development suite for blockchain applications. We do not focus specifically on smart contracts on a pre-existing system, but rather creating new and custom blockchains and decentralized systems that are not encompassed within the application space of smart contracts. Those who know a thing or two about smart contracts know that there is a limited subset of what they can do. The tools that Lamden is making supersede that subset and expose a development environment wherein any type of decentralized application can be developed. Lamden is an open source Python based blockchain network and development suite. Our blockchain was written entirely in Python and will be released, for free, to the Python community near the end of the year. Developers may be interested in why Lamden chose Python, what challenges the team has faced so far, what Lamden's tool-set will enable them to do and maybe how they can get involved. Lamden's goal is to put easy to use blockchain tools in the hands of Python developers.

New products, platforms and protocols break into the consumer mainstream when the average user engages based on the benefit of the service (i.e. faster, cheaper, better) without being forced to care about the enabling technology. To date, the users of decentralized blockchain applications have been primarily those with a pre-existing interest in the space. Some companies, like Public Market, are changing this. What’s more, tokenization is breeding unprecedented network effects for tokenized applications. Mainstream decentralized apps can provide all the benefits of network effects without the costs to the network participants that are unavoidable under private, centralized and rent-seeking network ownership. Importantly, these cost savings for users can be more than financial: they can also come in the form of increased privacy, ownership of data, and more favorable network policies.

AR has allowed everyday objects to come to life digitally. Alexa has now enabled countless devices to interact through voice commands. These technologies greatly enhance the end user experience. Blockchain promises to allow any asset to be tracked across it’s lifecycle in a secured distributed way. However, the confluence of these three technologies leads to powerful capabilities which can greatly enhance existing business processes for enterprises. For ex: An application could use Alexa to receive voice commands to interact with an AR object and the change of state of the AR objects could be stored in a Blockchain. This allows traceability of the AR object states, Alexa commands and the overall interaction. This session will aim to walk the user through few examples leveraging Blockchain and the pitfalls to look out for along the way.

Regulatory landscape and outlook for cryptocurrencies and ICOs.

This session will look at a framework for mapping blockchain capabilities to 
enterprise needs leading to potential innovations and new solutions across the enterprise application stack.

To create "smarter search" in today's search engines, we need to understand a) what our users are looking for, b) what kinds of questions they've generally been interested in the past, c) what previous attempts to satisfy this search question have been, d) what others have been feeling were successful answers to this (and related) questions.  These questions are difficult in general, but with our user's collective behavior to guide us, an "80% solution" can be achieved by doing that most effective "machine learning model": counting.  The next 80% relevance gain can be found in a combination of collaborative filtering recommender systems wired through your search engine, and simple supervised machine learning for query intent classification.  If you really need to get the remaining 80% of relevance gains left, you'll need to roll up your sleeves and do some NLP or knowledge graph mining, but first let's see if you even need to get that far.

With the amount of ICO scams, companies being unable to deliver on promised product, pump and dump schemes in the secondary markets, it is imperative for the space to become regulated in order to continue growing. The panel will discuss the various pros and cons to regulation, how to implement it, potential options to backdate compliance for the companies delivering on their promises.

Factom has identity management built into the core of the blockchain code allowing users to define cryptographic identities for people, documents, resources and nearly anything else. Managing identity on the Blockchain creates identities with a verifiable history; every change to the identity is permanently written to the Blockchain creating an audit trail. What’s more, hierarchical identity keys allow for easy management of identities in the real world as when low level keys are compromised externally or rotated due to internal processes, the keys can be revoked and replaced with higher level keys. Paul Snow will walk attendees through identity management on a blockchain and the many key use cases it facilitates.

Much of the Internet is built on use of digital certificates to provide trusted assertions. Digital certificates have many limitations that can now be overcome using distributed ledgers and other components. While many applications of blockchains have unproven value or can be implemented more efficiently without them, we demonstrate that blockchains and other forms of distributed ledgers can be used to construct a global system that solves many of the current problems in identity and trust management systems. This system allows us to establish identity and trust management systems that can gracefully scale to include the Internet of Everything. The talk will discuss many of the limitations of current certificate authorities such as: · Scale: Current CAs are hierarchical, so the production of trusted assertions is limited by the inability of CAs to efficiently organize means for trusting assertions from authorities that naturally need to cover billions of diverse topics from billions of authoritative sources that interact in non-hierarchical ways. · Perfect Forward Integrity: Certificate base systems rely on the security of signing keys. When a signing key is compromised, all certificates signed with the key both in the future as well as the past, lose verifiable authenticity. Worse, all assertions made in the past with keys downstream in a certificate chain are compromised. This exacerbates and is exacerbated by the scaling issue described above. A system with perfect forward integrity is needed whereby assertions are still valid and authenticatable as long as we know they were made before the key was compromised. · Revocation and renewability: After decades of deployment of Certificate Management systems, revocation and renewability remain difficult and unscalable even for homogeneous applications. Identity management for entities whose attributes can change often requires new thinking and systems. · Impending collapse from Quantum Computation: All certificate schemes that are in practice today are vulnerable to QC attacks that can someday render all digital certificates past, present and future useless. The proposed distributed ledger-based system will include the following features: · A heterogenous system of distributed ledgers with common interfaces can become a universal recording mechanism for all types of trusted assertions about "rich identities" for all kinds of entities. · This heterogeneous system can evolve to naturally and securely support assertions from the "natural" authorities able to cover diverse attributes about diverse entities. This system will scale as more entities need to rely on one another in an Internet of Everything. · We introduce the concept of "trusted derivatives" of distributed ledgers that can be used to efficiently make trusted assertions available to individual entities and applications optimized for their needs. · While the virtuous immutability and auditability of distributed ledgers can make revocation and renewability challenging, we can use these trusted derivatives to provide the latest trusted assertions, including any changes and revocations, available in highly efficient ways. Under this system, users of trusted information can be guaranteed the latest information provided at low latency and high reliability. Costs of the system can be scaled according to the level of assurance required. · A few simple, optimizable components can be designed to provide a highly reliable, adaptive, scalable system that efficiently transfers information from trusted assertion producers with recognized authority on specific topics to trusted assertion consumers who will use that information according to their specific applications and their own personalized policies. · The architecture allows for the use of many different types and formats of trusted assertions. This architecture will support notions of "incremental trust", blind authorization, anonymity, and confidentiality. · The system is designed to significantly reduce vulnerability to quantum computing attacks.

Today, blockchain is a “hot topic” and not widely understood. Generally, there are two types of people in the blockchain space, the spectators, who think it is a fad or a “get rich quick” plan and the people who are more invested in the long-term potential of blockchain in our society.

When the internet was introduced no one quite understood it at first, and now we cannot imagine a world without it. Similarly, blockchain is discussed in everyday life, but no one quite understands how big of an impact it can and will have in the not-so-distant future. Adoption of blockchain will be tricky, and like all new technologies, users will need to feel like they can trust it and not fear it. Therefore, it is crucial that the user experience and design are heavily evaluated, and products must be crafted with the needs and want of the user in mind or else there will never be as great of a user adoption as needed. A more human-centered blockchain design can help attract and attain users.

Ultimately, the widespread adoption of blockchain will not be because the technology is not there, it will be because the design does not match the technology and people will be fearful. We need to remove that fear and instill acceptance and creating a great user experience is the answer

The financial services industry is making significant investments into the blockchain, a distributed ledger technology best known for enabling the digital currency bitcoin. Realizing the economic potential of blockchain technology could result in sharply lowered fund transfer times and costs while bolstering security.
